Kevin Stewart could tell his fiancée, Mia, was growing restless. Weekly FaceTime calls with her sister, Jacque, weren’t enough anymore. They hadn’t seen each other in three years—not since their last BBQ competition, where they claimed the top prize together. With the next competition just around the corner, Kevin hatched a plan: he’d fly Jacque in from Seattle for a surprise reunion.
Coordinating with Jacque, Kevin worked out every detail, keeping Mia in the dark. On the eve of the competition, Kevin convinced Mia to come with him to the airport under the guise of picking up a delivery. When Jacque stepped through the terminal doors, Mia’s stunned expression melted into pure joy. The sisters embraced, laughing and crying all at once, as if no time had passed.
The reunion was perfect timing. Upon learning that several slots were open in the competition, Jacque and Mia couldn’t resist entering as a team again. Dusting off their old recipes and perfecting their techniques, they threw themselves into the event. The air was rich with smoke and spices as the sisters recreated their famous BBQ ribs and grilled pound cake.
When the results were announced, they won second place. But the trophy didn’t matter—they had each other, and that was the real victory. Kevin beamed with pride, savoring the reunion he’d orchestrated and, of course, indulging in those legendary smoked ribs.
As the weekend came to a close, Kevin’s mind was already spinning with ideas for the next surprise, knowing how much these moments meant to Mia—and now to him too.
